Support This Is Nowhere

Hey there TATE fans!

As you may have heard, I have a book coming out soon. Ha ha, yeah, okay… I know I’ve been inundating you with Toxic History promotions over the past few weeks. I promise, it’s going to slow down really soon – right after the pre-order deadline passes this Monday, Sept. 5.

Today I wanted to send a more personal note to the regular readers of This Is Nowhere, to give you one last reason to pre-order your copy (if the weekly Airborne giveaways and the promise of a FREE digital bonus chapter haven’t been enough to get you off the fence).

I’ve never written about this before, and I don’t plan to write about it again anytime soon. However, as you can imagine, This Is Nowhere doesn’t pay for itself. For going on three and a half years now, I’ve been more than happy to pay all expenses out of pocket, including but not limited to hosting fees, security certificates, design and maintenance fees, and the many TATE prize items that we give away each year through regular contests. It definitely adds up.

Through the years, I have considered and ultimately rejected many of the standard ways in which other bloggers and websites recoup some of their costs, including on-site advertising, Patreon accounts, donation buttons and paid content. This Is Nowhere is not and has never been about making money, and I don’t want to do anything that conveys that impression.

That being said, Toxic History is my one and only attempt to recover some of the costs of operating this TATE haven. And while I certainly don’t want anyone to feel obligated, if you regularly enjoy what we offer here, I would very much appreciate your support if you can spare it.

Why Pre-Order?

You may be wondering why it’s so important to pre-order your copy, rather than waiting until after the book is officially released on Oct. 5. I wish I could say it’s about more than money, but the truth is, that’s about the long and the short of it.

Whether you pre-order the book or purchase it sometime down the road, you will pay roughly the same price (give or take a few dollars – each retailer is free to offer their own discounts, but they are all working with the same suggested retail price). However, there is a dramatic difference in how the proceeds (over and above printing costs) are distributed, based on when and where you purchase it.

Pre-Order Through This Is Nowhere (deadline: Sept. 5): 100% of proceeds go back into This Is Nowhere

Order through (after Oct. 5): 80% of proceeds go back into This Is Nowhere, 20% to Lulu

Order through or other online retailer (after Oct. 5): 80% of proceeds go to the retailer, 16% to This Is Nowhere, 4% to Lulu

I want to be totally transparent with this information, so that you can make an informed purchase decision. Because I don’t have the capacity to be a book distributor, this pre-order period is the only time that I plan to sell books directly to customers – and thus, the only time that 100% of the profits from your purchase will come back to This Is Nowhere. After the pre-order deadline expires on Monday, I will place my order with Lulu so I can get your books shipped out to you before Oct. 5, when Toxic History will become available through online retailers around the world. After that date, I will encourage everyone to purchase through Lulu if possible, since this is the next best option to buying directly from me.

Well, that’s enough about money. Suffice it to say, the best way to support This Is Nowhere is to place your order through our shop before Monday night, Sept. 5. (And hey, pick up a poster while you’re at it!)

Regardless of when and where you buy Toxic History, and even if you can’t afford to purchase it at all, thank you for visiting This Is Nowhere and contributing to the wonderful fan community that it has become. However the book does, I remain fully committed to keeping TIN as the ultimate online destination for fans of The Airborne Toxic Event. Stick around – there’s much more fun to come.

With gratitude,

Glen Hoos
